Asus will be unveiling its next flagship gaming smartphone, the ROG Phone 3. The device has been leaked several times and now we get a better look thanks to a high-resolution image shared on @evleaks’s Patreon account.
The ROG Phone 3 will retain its similar dark grey metal appearance but it appears to be more flush than its predecessor. As seen earlier, the device gets a horizontally aligned triple-camera setup and this time it uses a 64MP quad-bayer camera. You’ll notice there are 2 LED flash components and we reckon the secondary LED is used to provide Aura lighting for its matching Lightning Armor cases.
One of the notable changes is the air vents on the rear for its Aerodynamic cooling system. Instead of a protruding panel, the design looks flush and there’s a slim cutout which could be designed to work with the add-on AeroActive cooler fan.
Over at the front, the design remains unchanged and there’s still a noticeable forehead and chin which is said to be better for gamers. The front camera is still positioned on the top right corner of the forehead and interestingly, the speaker grills are now black without any copper accents. It seems that Asus is toning down on its aggressive styling and the new model looks more like a mainstream smartphone.
If you look closely at the sides, it still gets a power button and a volume rocker on the right. Meanwhile, the left still gets a rather large port which allows you to connect to a range of accessories.
In terms of specs, the new ROG Phone 3 is expected to run on a Qualcomm Snapdragon 865+ processor and it is also speculated to come with up to 16GB of RAM. Based on its listing through regulatory certifications, the device will come with a 6.59″ Full HD+ AMOLED display and it is rumoured to come with up to 144Hz refresh rate which is similar to the Nubia Red Magic 5G. Similar to its predecessor, it comes with a 6,000mAh battery and it supports 30W fast charging via USB-C.
The ROG Phone 3 launch is happening on 22nd July at 11pm Malaysian time. You can watch the event live on their website. With the new processor and increased amount of RAM, do expect the new phone to come with a higher price tag. As a comparison, the current ROG Phone 2 is priced in Malaysia from RM2,499 for the Strix Edition with 8GB RAM + 128GB storage while its top-of-the-line 12GB RAM + 1TB storage variant was launched at RM4,499.
