Samsung Galaxy Note 20: Here’s what to expect from the upcoming flagship with an S Pen

The Samsung Galaxy Note 20 series is expected to be unveiled very soon with two new models – Note 20 and Note 20 Ultra. These are their latest flagship smartphones with an S Pen which would succeed last year’s Galaxy Note 10 series. Here are some of the top things to look forward to in this year’s Note 20.

120Hz display

Similar to the Galaxy S20, the Note 20 will come with a Quad HD+ display that’s capable of pushing a 120Hz refresh rate. This would give the device fluid and responsive screen that is great for gaming. On the Galaxy S20, the 120Hz mode is only limited to Full HD+ resolution and there is a possibility that Samsung might allow the Note 20 to run its 120Hz refresh rate at a higher Quad HD+ resolution.

Smaller bezels and punch-hole

As seen on recent hands-on photos, the front of the Galaxy Note 20 looks like the current Note 10. However, if you look closely, the bezels appear to be thinner which gives it a higher screen-to-body ratio. Even the punch-hole of the Infinity-O display appears smaller which makes it less distracting when viewing full-screen content.

Exynos 990

Under the hood, the Note 20 series is expected to run on the same processor as the Galaxy S20. This means, you can expect the same Exynos 990 under the hood and it is highly likely that we get the 5G variant for the Ultra model. Samsung does have a Snapdragon 865 variant but that’s only available for selected markets only.

Enhanced S Pen with “Laser Pointer”

Of course, we can’t talk about the Note series without mentioning the S Pen. Last year, Samsung had introduced gesture controls for the Galaxy Note 10’s S Pen thanks to a 6-axis sensor. For the Note 20 series, the S Pen will get a “Laser pointer” feature which can be useful for presentations. Based on the recent leaks, you can adjust the speed and change the colour of the pointer.

Mystic Bronze

A few weeks ago, Samsung had accidentally leaked the photos of the Galaxy Note 20 Ultra on its website. From the looks of it, the copperish “Mystic Bronze” will be the new hero colour and it looks quite good with its metal and glass exterior. Apart from the Galaxy Note 20, a new type of wireless earbuds which is speculated to be called as the Galaxy Buds Live is also expected to be announced and it also comes in the same Mystic Bronze colour.

New Triple-camera setup with periscope camera

The Galaxy Note 20 will feature the best camera setup on the Galaxy Note series ever. The Note 20 Ultra will come with at least three cameras at the rear. One of the cameras is a periscope telephoto shooter which should offer better zoom range than the current Galaxy Note 10’s 2x optical zoom.

However, it is rumoured that it will not offer the insane 100X space zoom that’s found on the Galaxy S20 Ultra. On the bright side, there’s a possibility that it will use Samsung’s latest 50MP ISOCELL GN1 sensor that promises to offer best-in-class auto-focusing while having a great low-light performance with its tetra cell technology.

The Galaxy Note 20 will be unveiled at a Samsung Unpacked event that’s happening at 10pm Malaysian time on 5th of August. Since Malaysia is a key market, we expect local pre-orders to start shortly after the global announcement. To be among the first to know about the upcoming Galaxy Note 20, you can register your interest on Samsung Malaysia’s website.
