COVID-19: New cases jump to 5 today, 3 are Malaysians

Malaysia records 5 new cases today, which brings the total number of COVID-19 infections to 8,734. There are no new deaths reported and the death toll remains at 122.

The Ministry of Health has reported two new recoveries today and a total of 8.526 patients have recovered and discharged so far. The recovery rate is currently 97.62% while the mortality rate is 1.40%.

There are currently 86 active cases remaining which are still receiving treatment. 5 patients are in ICU and there’s one case that requires respiratory support.

Out of the 5 new cases today, there’s 1 imported and 4 local transmissions. The sole imported case is a foreigner that came from India. From the 4 local transmissions, there’s 1 Malaysian in Selangor that was detected during a pre-surgery screening. The remaining 3 local cases are reported in Sarawak which consists of 2 Malaysians and 1 foreigner.
