Honor MagicBook laptops with AMD Ryzen 4000 CPUs expected to be announced on 16 July

Honor will be revealing a new series of products that will utilitse AMD’s Ryzen 4000 processors. The announcement was made via a teaser poster shared on Chinese microblogging site, Weibo. Honor also said it plans to unveil a new series of products that offers “A+ productivity” via livestream on 16 July.

Both AMD and Honor have been teasing about this collaboration for some time now with a report from Gizmochina. Ever since AMD debuted the first Ryzen 4000 CPUs at CES 2020, there has been much interest in these new processors as they promise to bring up to 8 cores and 16 threads to ultrathin laptops. Compared to last year’s models, the new chips should offer a significant jump in performance while improving their overall power efficiency.

Considering that Honor just launched its new line of 2020 MagicBooks recently, it is highly unlikely that there will be a dramatic design of the laptop’s chassis. The upgrade to AMD’s Ryzen 4000 processors is deemed to be significant as it leverages on AMD’s improved 7nm architecture. This promises to offer greater performance and power efficiency, resulting in longer last battery-life. At the same time, the integrated Radeon graphics is claimed by AMD to be good enough for streaming content like videos in 4K resolution and HDR.

Speaking of gaming, in the same Gizmochina report, it is speculated that this same collaboration could result in Honor releasing its first gaming laptops sometime this year. Its parent company Huawei is also expected to announce its first gaming laptops in August after Honor’s announcement.

As usual, the initial launch for the new Ryzen-powered Honor MagicBook laptops will be in China first but this should be followed with a global release a couple of months later.

Honor recently released the MagicBook 14 in Malaysia for RM2,499. The laptop only weighs 1.38kg and it comes with a 14″ IPS display with a Full HD resolution.

This version comes with an AMD Ryzen 5 3500U processor with Vega 8 graphics. It is paired with 8GB of DDR4 RAM and 256GB of PCIe NVMe SSD storage. Aside from that, it supports 65W fast-charging via USB-C that gets the laptop up to 46% in just half an hour.
