COVID-19: New cases drop to 8, one new death after 26 days

Malaysia has recorded 8 new cases today which brings the total number of COVID-19 infections to 8,704. Unfortunately, there’s one new death today which is a first death recorded since 15th June. Today’s fatality is a 72-year-old man in Kuching who has a history of high blood pressure and diabetes. The death toll currently stands at 122.

According to the Ministry of Health, there are 4 new recoveries, and a total of 8,515 patients have recovered and discharged so far. The recovery rate is currently 97.83% while the mortality rate is 1.40%.

At the moment, there are 67 active cases remaining which are currently isolated and receiving treatment. 3 patients are in ICU and 2 require respiratory support.

Out of the 8 new cases today, 4 are imported and 4 are local cases. The imported cases are all Malaysians consisting of 2 returning from Singapore, 1 returning from Pakistan and 1 returning from the United Kingdom.

For the local cases, there’s are 2 cases involving foreigners in Selangor at the Sepang Immigration Detention Depot. The two individuals were screened as part of the deportation process. The remaining two cases are Malaysians reported in Sarawak and Sabah.
