COVID-19: New cases jump to 10 today (4 July), includes 7 Malaysians returning from Saudi Arabia

Malaysia has recorded 10 new COVID-19 cases today which brings the total number of infections to 8,658. There are no new deaths recorded for 20 days and the death toll remains at 121.

The Ministry of Health has reported 15 new recoveries today and a total of 8,461 patients have recovered and discharged so far. The recovery rate is currently 97.72% while the mortality rate is 1.4%.

At the moment, there are 76 active cases remaining which are still isolated and receiving treatment. 2 cases are in ICU and both require respiratory support.

From the new cases reported today, 7 are imported while 3 are locally transmitted. All 7 imported cases are Malaysians returning from Saudi Arabia. In terms of local cases, there are 2 Malaysians that are found positive in Kuala Lumpur and Sabah. The remaining local case is a foreigner at Negeri Sembilan.

The Ministry of Health has also announced the end of the Pudu cluster which had recorded a total of 80 positive cases. A total of 54 clusters have ended so far.

Malaysia continues to take a targeted approach for COVID-19 testing. At the moment, the Ministry of Health has screened a total of 797,796 individuals and the positive rate is 1.09%.
