Spotify’s new Premium Duo plan for couples isn’t quite the deal that Premium Family is

Spotify has just announced a brand new premium membership plan for partners living at the same home address: Spotify Premium Duo. Available now for Malaysian users, the subscription comes at a monthly fee of RM19.80, with two users to have independent premium accounts.

Users will also have a new playlist to listen to—Duo Mix—which basically curates the type of music that you and your partner listen to into a regularly-updated playlist. This is something similar to the Family Mix playlist that Premium Family subscribers have, and for all intents and purposes, it appears that the Premium Duo plan is simply the family plan with less available slots.

While the Premium Duo plan appears to be part of an on-going strategy by Spotify to dominate the streaming market for users from different niches, it doesn’t quite beat the value that the Family plan offers. While Premium Family costs RM2.60 more at RM22.40 per month, the subscription supports up to six different accounts—at about RM3.73 per user. Premium Duo, meanwhile, is priced at RM19.80 for two accounts—RM9.90 per user.

Regardless, if you only have two users living under the same roof and you’re keen to subscribe, you can do so by heading over Spotify’s Duo page. If you haven’t tried Spotify Premium before (or if you sign up with fresh details), you’ll be able to get your first month of membership for free. And if you’re already a Premium subscriber, you can switch over to Premium Duo by clicking on “Account” on Spotify’s official website.
