COVID-19: Malaysia records zero local cases today, only 1 new imported case

Malaysia has recorded a historical milestone today with no new local COVID-19 cases. There’s only 1 new imported case which brings the total number of cases to 8,640. This is a new daily low since the movement control order was imposed on 18th March 2020. There are also no new deaths recorded for 17 days straight and the death toll remains at 121.

The Ministry of Health has also recorded 21 new recoveries and a total of 8,375 patients have recovered and discharged. The recovery rate is now 96.93% while the mortality rate is 1.4%.

At the moment, there are still 144 active cases remaining which are currently isolated and still receiving treatment. There are 4 patients in ICU and the number of cases that require respiratory support has increased to 2 today.

The sole import case is a 21-year-old Malaysian returning from Turkey.

According to the Ministry of Health, today’s achievement is a result of the cooperation from everyone including the compliance of SOP. Authorities would also want to remind the public to stay vigilant as the pandemic is far from over. Malaysians should not let their guard down and to continue to take precautions to reduce the risk of infections.

During today’s National Security Council briefing, it was reported that 1,472 people who are placed under home quarantine after returning from overseas have yet to come forward to conduct a second COVID-19 test on the 13th day. The police will be mobilised to track down those who refuse to undergo the second screening.
