Asus has officially launched its new ROG Zephyrus G14 ultra-slim gaming notebook in Malaysia. It had previously showcased the Zephyrus G14 back at CES 2020 in Las Vegas, showing off the powerful 1.7kg lightweight gaming laptop with its eye-catching AniMe Matrix dot matrix animated display on the lid.
According to Asus, there will be 8 variants of the Zephyrus G14 coming to Malaysia. Currently only two, the GA401I-IHE103T and GA401I-VHA232T, are available now with the rest of the models expected to arrive between August to September 2020.
The two models are priced at RM5,299 and RM7,699 respectively. Both these models come in Moonlight White with an Anime Matrix dot matrix design on the lid. Asus will also bring in a model without the custom dot matrix design in August 2020, priced cheaper at RM4,499.

Asus said it will offer two years global warranty for the laptops. The laptops will be available on online platforms such as Lazada, Shopee as well as Asus’ experience stores and authorised distributors.
When choosing the Zephyrus G14, gamers have a choice between two different 14” IPS panels. There is the faster Full HD (1,920 x 1,080 pixel resolution) display that goes up to a 120Hz refresh rate or the higher resolution WQHD (2,560 x 1,440 pixel resolution) display with a 60Hz refresh rate.
Both displays benefit from adaptive sync technology that synchronises the refresh rate of the display with the frame rate of the GPU to eliminate visual tearing, minimize stuttering and input lag. The displays are also factory calibrated and PANTONE Validated. They also offer wide viewing angles and cover 100% of the sRGB range. They’re framed by exceptionally thin bezels, creating an expansive 85% screen-to-body ratio.
A defining feature of the Zephyrus G14 is its distinctive AniMe Matrix dot matrix design on the magnesium-aluminium alloy lid. Comprising 1,215 mini LEDs, that can display text messages, animated GIFS and other graphics, it allows gamers to express their individuality.
According to Asus, there will be additional features added at the end of Q1 include system functions that show new email notifications, as well as the date, time and battery level.
The Zephyrus G14 is packed into a smaller footprint compared to contemporary 15” gaming laptops. At only 17.9mm thin and weighing 1.7kg with the custom LED matrix, it can easily slip into a conventional laptop bag or backpack. There is even a version without the custom LED matrix that weighs 1.6kg.
The thin and lightweight gaming laptop can be configured up to an AMD Ryzen 9 4900JS processor, which is said to generate less heat while offering uncompromised levels of performance within a compact chassis.
The processor is also said to offer ample power for demanding applications like video editing, 3D rendering and game streaming. It can be configured with up to 32GB of DDR4-3200 RAM across dual channels. It also comes with ultra-fast storage that is supplied by an NVMe SSD with up to 1TB of capacity. It comes with Microsoft’s Windows 10 Home operating system.
To help the Zephyrus G14 run today’s top games it comes with up to a GeForce RTX 2060 discrete GPU based on Nvidia’s Turing architecture. It is boasted to output improved lighting, shadows and other in-game effects within games while being able to handle demanding workloads like content creation, 3D modelling and deep learning.
For aspiring game streamers, it has a dedicated video encoder that enables the Zephyrus G14 to play games and stream simultaneously. It also has specialised hardware that allows higher stream quality with minimal performance impact, and it’s compatible with Open Broadcaster Software (OBS).
The Zephyrus G14 also features an ErgoLift hinge that lifts the keyboard at a more comfortable angle while allowing the vents in the base more room to dispense heat easily.
You also get a quad-speaker setup on the Zephyrus G14 that Asus said delivers greater detail and volume. It has two tweeters above the keyboard that fire high-frequency sounds directly toward the user and two woofers beneath them offer deep bass amplified by the ErgoLift design. It also has Dolby Atmos surround sound technology that offers enhanced spatial immersion whether listening via headphones or with the built-in speakers.
Asus says the Zephyrus G14 is its first gaming laptop capable of being powered by DC or USB-C input. The included 76Wh lithium-polymer battery is touted to offer more than 10 hours of battery life. The laptop can also be charged from compatible USB-C power packs making it extra portable. The laptop also offers fast-charging support that supplies up to 3 amp to compatible smartphones and other devices.
There is also no need to worry about dongles as the Zephyrus G14 comes with ample ports. It has two USB-C ports with one capable of driving an external monitor via DisplayPort 1.4 while the other provides standard USB functionality. You also get an HDMI 2.0 port that is great for displaying games or movies on 4K monitors or TVs. Also, there are two USB-A ports for supporting your other accessories. There is also a 3.5mm headphone and microphone combo jack.
In terms of connectivity, the laptop offers Intel Wi-Fi 6 (Gig+) connectivity for fast speeds. When paired with a compatible router, Wi-Fi 6 boosts peak bandwidth up to 2.4Gbps. This helps reduce latency and lag for online gaming while expanding upstream capacity for live-streaming.
