Animal Crossing finally lets you swim in the sea

I’ve been wanting this update since the beginning of my gameplay, and Nintendo really came through. Animal Crossing: New Horizons will finally let your avatar swim in the ocean in their free summer update—and deep dive for new stuff as well.

Players will be able to jump into the waters that surround their island and even search for new sea life that can then be donated to the museum. In the video, that includes sea slugs, sea anemone and spotted garden eels.

Besides being able to retrieve new items, you’ll get to meet Pascal the otter—an NPC who has been in previous Animal Crossing games before. You can trade scallops for ‘gifts’ with him.

You’ll also be able to learn new crafting options, like new mermaid-themed furniture. Gulliver, the bird who frequently washes ashore, will now be decked out as a pirate for some reason as well (but I welcome it!).

The last big update for Animal Crossing: New Horizons was the garden shop and art seller in April. Additionally, Nintendo announced that “another summer update is planned to be released in early August”.
