Malaysia Airlines has enhanced its Economy Flex offering with more priority perks and greater flexibility. Although airlines are now permitted to operate at 100% capacity for domestic flights, Malaysia Airlines understands that some passengers may want to have the option to keep a safe distance from other passengers.
With the upgraded Economy Flex, passengers will be able to enjoy 50% off for Neighbour-free Seats. On top of that, you’ll also get 10% off for your next flight purchase as well as free basic travel protection.
The Flex fare also offers business class priority perks such as priority check-in, priority boarding and priority baggage for a hassle-free experience. Check-in luggage allowance has been upgraded from 30kg to 35kg, while cabin luggage still remains at 7kg.
For greater flexibility, Economy Flex also allows you to make unlimited date changes for free but you’ll still need to pay the fare differences if applicable. If you change your mind, Malaysia Airlines will also allow you to request a refund without a fee.
Take note that these benefits are offered on all Malaysia Airlines to all destinations except for Malaysia to Japan, Japan to Malaysia, Jeddah and Madinah.
The new perks will take effect for new tickets issued from 22nd June 2020 and all existing bookings made earlier will retain the same fare conditions at the original time of booking. According to the fine print, the Neighbour-free seat is subject to local International Social Distancing (ISD) regulations.
The Neighbour-Free Seat option isn’t entirely new. Malaysia had introduced the offering in October 2019 and you can only purchase it 72 hours before the flight subject to seat availability. This is somewhat similar to securing a seat upgrade but without the bidding process.
We can’t seem to find the pricing for the NFS option on the website. But you could probably find out yourself if you have an upcoming flight with Malaysia Airlines.
