Report: The Huawei Mate 40 series will feature 120Hz displays, finally

The Huawei Mate 40 series is set to launch later this year, and anticipation for Huawei’s latest flagship smartphone is starting to increase. Of course, all the talk during the release of the Mate 30 was about Google Mobile Services—or the lack thereof. But a new report now says that the Huawei Mate 40 will come with one significant upgrade over the P40 series (the last flagship release from the company): display refresh rate.

According to Ross Young, a supply chain consultant who has been known to release accurate information on mobile devices, the Huawei Mate 40 will feature a display with a 120Hz refresh rate. Young shared a list of 120Hz phones in 2020, including the Mate 40 as well as the iPhone 12 Pro.

You can view the full list below:

Currently, the highest refresh rate on a Huawei smartphone is the 90Hz display on the Huawei P40 series. During the launch, Huawei CEO Richard Yu explained that the choice of 90Hz was one that was made with battery life in mind—so it’s interesting to see how Huawei plans to handle this conundrum for the Mate 40 series.

However, with devices from rivals such as the OnePlus 8 Pro and Samsung’s Galaxy S20 already sporting 120Hz refresh rates, it was only a matter of time before Huawei followed suit.

As for the rest of the Mate 40, there hasn’t really been any officially confirmed information as of yet. However, we could reportedly see a new 108MP camera in the series, along with the use of a new free-form lens to help with image distortion. Something else to look out for could be a temperature measuring feature—just like the Honor Play 4.

While Huawei was expected to launch their upcoming Mate flagship in October 2020, Nikkei Asian Review reports that this launch could be delayed due to supply chain distruptions. This is apparently down to issues over the U.S. ban, with the halted production of certain components needed for the Mate 40 series resulting in a possible delayed release.

Still, we do expect to have more information on the Huawei Mate 40 series at some point before this year. As always, remember to keep SoyaCincau.com bookmarked on your browser so you don’t miss any future developments.
