This is the clearest look at the Asus ROG Phone III

There is a lot of anticipation for the Asus ROG Phone III ahead of its rumoured July 2020 announcement. A new leaked video of the new ROG handset gives us the clearest look yet at Asus’ new gaming smartphone.

Previously, we had a good look at some leaked screenshots of the ROG Phone III. Now a new leaked video has emerged giving us an even better look at the handset.

Though it is only 35 seconds long, the video gives us a good look of the phone from multiple angles. It appears the new handset will have a triple camera array on its back. That’s up by one camera compared to the ROG Phone II’s dual camera array.

Asus’ design language has not changed much in this latest iteration of its gaming smartphone. The ROG logo is the main focal point on the back and it is decked out in glorious RGB lighting. As expected you will be able to customise the colour of the lighting effects with an app on the phone.

Now, you might have missed one small detail in the video, the inclusion of the Tencent Games logo on the back of the phone. Last year Asus collaborated with Tencent Games to released a Tencent branded version of the ROG Phone II , that was only sold in China, which came with pre-loaded Tencent content. There is a good chance that the inclusion of the logo indicates that a similar partnership would be formed between Asus and Tencent.

In front there is a 6.59” FHD+ AMOLED display with an optical in-display fingerprint scanner to unlock the phone. There is no mention of the screen’s refresh rate but last year’s handset offered a 120Hz refresh rate.

Interestingly, Asus has decided to use a larger forehead bezel on the front of the phone to house the front facing camera. Disappointingly, it seems the 3.5mm headphone jack is missing from the device.

In terms of software, it is expected that the ROG Phone III will run on Android 10 at launch and will run with Asus’ ROG UI on top. Like in the last model, there will be a special gaming mode that overclocks the Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 chipset for better performance during games.
