Honor is launching a new budget phone with 5,000mAh battery on 23 June

If the Honor 9X Lite is out of your budget, the Huawei sub-brand is launching its Honor 9A very soon. This would be their new entry-level device that is expected to be priced under RM500.

The Honor 9A will be announced on the 23rd of June 2020 at 8.00pm and you can watch it live on Honor’s Facebook page. Since Malaysia is a key market, we expect local sales to begin shortly after the announcement.

Based on the teasers, the Honor 9A will come with a 6.3″ display and 64GB of internal storage. If terms of design, it gets a glass-looking back with a rectangular camera bump, while the screen still comes with a tiny notch. The teasers also include a sticker that says “Explore it On AppGallery” which tells us that it won’t come with Google PlayStore and services out of the box.

Interestingly, the Honor 9A is already listed on Honor’s website and it looks like a rebranded Huawei Y6p. It comes with a 6.3″ HD+ (1600×720 pixels) display and it runs on a Mediatek MT6762R (Helio P22) processor with 3GB of RAM. Onboard, it has 64GB of storage which is expandable via a dedicated microSD card.

For photography, it features a triple-camera setup that consists of a 13MP main camera, a 5MP ultra-wide-angle lens and a 2MP depth sensor. The tiny notch on the screen houses an 8MP selfie camera.

Powering the Honor 9A is a 5,000mAh battery which charges via a micro-USB port. It doesn’t support 5GHz WiFi but it has a built-in FM radio. Out of the box, it runs on EMUI 10.1 that’s based on Android 10. The device is offered in two colours – Phantom Blue and Midnight Black.
