We have seen our fair share of strange Pokémon branded products in the past. Everything from bubble tea to gaming keyboards. But the latest collaboration with Zara really takes the cake. You must be a die-hard Pokémon fan to wear these Pokéball heeled ankle boots.
Before you ask, don’t worry the bottom of the Pokéballs have actually been made flat. So yes, they work like any normal pair of boots. We can’t imagine anyone walking around in this boots with rounded heels.
The ankle boots have a very streamlined and simple design with a sleek black body with a high snug ankle. A black stripe runs down the heel that leads to the Pokéball at the heel. The red-and-white Pokéball, that acts as the heel, is estimated to be about 1-2inches in height.
These funky Pokémon themed ankle boots are actually a modified version of an existing Zara boot called Stretch Ankle Boots with Metallic Heel Detail that costs RM349. As the name suggests, the regular version just has a metallic block heel instead of Pokéballs.
Here is a side by side comparison of the two Zara made boots.
Based on the item’s description, which should apply to the ankle boot with Pokéballs too, the boot has a heel height of 7.5cm. A classic heel height that is suited for work. The upper part of the boot is mainly made of polyester, giving it a lightweight silkier feel compared to cotton.
This is not the first time the Pokémon Company has tied up with fashion brands to make footwear. It previously did a collaboration with Japanese streetwear fashion brand GLAMB in 2019 to make a pair of Pikachu sneakers.
Pricing and availability
The price for the boots varies by region. In Hong Kong they carry a price tag of HKD399 (about RM220) on Zara’s online store while in China they are sold for CNY199 (about RM120) online. At the time of writing, both online stores were having a sales promotion with the boots selling for HKD299 (about RM165) and CNY129 (about RM78) in their respective countries. Considering that is just a fraction of the cost of the regular boots sold by Zara, the Pokémon version of the boots is quite a steal.
Unfortunately, there is no word if Zara will actually bring the Pokémon-themed boots into Malaysia. Your best bet would be to try to import them but we suspect that they won’t come cheap.
