Samsung’s new budget phone appears to come with a removable battery

Most new smartphones released in the past few years do not come with a user-replaceable battery. Not only it helps make water resistance more reliable, but it also allows manufactures to come out with sleeker designs with curved backs. Now it appears that Samsung could be offering removable batteries for its upcoming budget smartphone.

According to Sammobile, a new Galaxy device with the model number SM-A013F will come with a battery as shown below. The EB-BA013ABY battery is said to be removable and it comes with a 3,000mAh capacity.

The phone isn’t announced yet and it is expected to be an even more affordable option than the current Galaxy A01 that’s currently selling in Malaysia for RM449. The device has recently appeared on Geekbench database and it reveals that it’s running on a MediaTek MT6739 processor with just 1GB of RAM.

It is worth pointing out that Samsung hasn’t completely abandoned removable batteries for its smartphone. The rugged Galaxy XCover 4s that was announced last year comes with a removable 2,800mAh battery. The interchangeable battery is highlighted as a feature to allow users to stay connected for a long time on business trips when you are unable to find a power source to charge.

With power banks being more accessible than ever, it isn’t clear if replaceable batteries would be an important factor for buyers. Besides, the cost of a new battery is normally more expensive than a power bank itself and there’s also the hassle of charging the spare batteries individually.

For those that need a phone that can last for long hours, there are several mid-range devices in the market with huge 5,000mAh and 6,000mAh batteries. What do you think? Should manufacturers bring back removable batteries? Let us know in the comments below.
