COVID-19: New cases jump to 31 today, only 1 Malaysian from local cases

After recording just two new cases yesterday, the number of new COVID-19 cases jump to 31 in Malaysia today. This brings the total number of infections to 8,369. Fortunately, there are no new deaths and the death toll remains at 118.

The Ministry of Health has reported 51 new recoveries today, and a total of 7,065 cases have recovered and discharged so far. The recovery rate in Malaysia is currently 84.42% while the mortality rate is 1.41%.

At the moment, the number of active cases have dropped to 1,186 and they are still receiving treatment. There are 5 cases in ICU and no cases require respiratory support.

Out of the 31 cases reported today, 11 are imported from Indonesia while 20 are transmitted locally. From the local cases, there’s one case involving a Malaysian in Selangor while the remaining 19 are foreigners.

From the list of active COVID-19 clusters, there are 16 new cases at the Pedas cluster in Negeri Sembilan, 1 new case at Kg. Sungai Lui and 1 new case at the cleaning company in Kuala Lumpur.

The Ministry of Health currently has the capacity to conduct 34,951 COVID-19 tests per day from 50 labs nationwide. Malaysia has been conducting less than 50% of its daily testing capacity in the past 4 days.
