Here’s how Socar is empowering small businesses during the MCO

Small and home businesses have been in need of affordable delivery and transport services for their products due to the effects of the pandemic. This was where car-sharing services like SoCar come in, to specifically offer transport and delivery options for small business hoping to make ends meet.

For SoCar, they started their Business Mobility plan during MCO. It serves as a “convenient, safe and hygienic option for businesses looking to operate while keeping transportation costs in check”. They also offer free petrol worth 20KMs of mileage for every hour booked and have 3 different car types to choose from.

“Some of the more popular choices of transportation by SoCar Business Mobility users are Perodua Axia and Perodua Myvi in areas such as Selangor, Kuala Lumpur, Johor Bahru and Penang with the most common bookings ranging from less than 12 hours up to 5 days,” wrote the company in their press release.

How SoCar helped

An early adopter of the Business Mobility plan was Muhammad Uzaini Bashah. He has been selling baked goods from home for the past 4 months—such as Belgian Fudgy Brownies, Craquelin Creampuffs, Portuguese Egg Tarts and Burnt Cheesecake.

Uzaini had previously used delivery services to send the baked goods to his customers. However, during the implementation of the MCO, he stated that he started using the Business Mobility plan because of its affordability, as well as the free petrol.

“With his business recently seeing an increase in sales, he strongly believes that having the SOCAR Business Mobility plan as an option is an advantage for home businesses. Uzaini hopes to continue using the SOCAR Business Mobility plan even after the Conditional Movement Control Order has been lifted,” wrote SoCar.

Roslaily Rosli, a PJ resident, operates a home business selling baked goods as well. She had been using SoCar for some time previously. But when the Business Mobility plan was introduced, she was “truly excited”, according to SoCar.

“Since all her orders are cash on delivery, she prefers meeting her customers in person instead of using a delivery service. (She) feels that the plan has benefitted her and her business in many ways, particularly by helping her cut back on transportation costs,” wrote the company.

If you’re a small or home business owner, or even a delivery agent in need of transportation service, here’s how you can use their services:

  • Visit the SoCar Business Mobility plan website here
  • Register your details in the form given and specify whether you’re a business owner or a deliverer

SoCar also partnered up with logistics companies like Teleport, Lalamove, MrSpeedy and Pickupp. The decision was so that business owners and delivery agents have more options for delivery services through their portal.
