Malaysia has recorded 19 new COVID-19 cases today and it brings the total number of positive cases to 8,322. There are no new deaths recorded and the death toll remains at 117.

The Ministry of Health has also recorded 39 new recoveries and a total of 6,674 patients have recovered and discharged so far. The recovery rate currently stands at 80.20% while the mortality rate is at 1.41%.

At the moment, there are 1,531 active cases remaining which are currently isolated and receiving treatment. 5 cases are currently in ICU and there are no cases that require respiratory support.

Out of the 19 new positive cases today, 6 are imported while 13 are transmitted locally. The imported cases include 4 individuals returning from India and 2 from Brunei.

Among the local cases, only 2 are foreigners (Selangor and KL), while the remaining 11 are Malaysians. There are 6 cases involving Malaysians in Selangor, 2 in KL, 2 in Sabah and 1 in Negeri Sembilan.

The government has recently announced an extension for the Movement Control Order until 31st August 2020. The current CMCO phase will end on 9th of June and Malaysia will move into a recovery phase which is known as the RMCO from the 10th of June until 31st August 2020.

Under the RMCO, more restrictions will be lifted including interstate travel for domestic tourism. Schools are expected to be reopened in stages and the Ministry of Education will be making an announcement soon.
