[ UPDATE 7/06/2020 00:30 ]: Hotlink has revealed the FUP limits for its Prepaid Unlimited plan. Speeds will be throttled to 512kbps once FUP limit is reached. More details here.

Hotlink has just introduced its all-new Hotlink Prepaid that offers unlimited data and unlimited calls. As leaked recently, this appears to be a direct competitor to U Mobile’s Giler Unlimited prepaid.
Before you jump right in, here are 5 things you need to know about the new unlimited plan by Hotlink.
Unlimited data at capped speeds
The biggest catch is that the unlimited data comes with a speed cap. Hotlink provides two monthly options: RM35 which gives you unlimited data at 3Mbps and RM45 which offers unlimited data with double the speed at 6Mbps. Both plans come with unlimited calls to all local networks.
There is also a weekly option that costs RM12 (7 days) and a daily option that costs RM3 (1 day). Both also come with unlimited calls and the speed is capped at 3Mbps.
Looking at the table that’s published on the FAQ, the monthly subscription fee of RM35 and RM45 are actually promo prices that are available at the moment. The official subscription fee costs RM3 more and there’s no mention of when its promo price will end.
Take note that the unlimited internet passes are not auto-renewable.
UPDATE: Maxis has confirmed there’s a FUP limit of 5GB for daily pass, 15GB for weekly pass and 50GB for monthly passes. Once you’ve reached the limit, speeds will be throttled to 512kbps.
No hotspot included
Unlike U Mobile’s Giler Unlimited plans, hotspot is not included with the standard unlimited passes. According to Hotlink, the Unlimited Internet Passes are for usage on your smartphone only. If you do need to use your phone for a hotspot, you can purchase their add-on internet passes that come with uncapped speeds.
Data passes with uncapped speed
If you have a sudden need for speed, you can bypass the 3Mbps or 6Mbps speed cap temporarily by purchasing one of their add-on internet passes. These passes also allow you to use your phone as a hotspot.
The pass starts from RM1 per hour which offers uncapped high-speed data with no quota limit. For long term usage, they are also offering 3GB pass for RM3 that’s valid for 24 hours or 5GB for RM10 which is valid for 7 days.
10% cashback for app purchases and free Viu
To provide extra value, Hotlink is also offering free premium access to Viu to those that subscribe to the unlimited monthly passes. You can redeem it from the “Shop” tab in the Hotlink app or visit this link.
In addition, Hotlink is giving a 10% rebate for app purchases through the Google Play Store and Apple AppStore. This is somewhat similar to Ookyo’s offering but this covers both Android and Apple devices. To enjoy the cashback, you must set Hotlink credit as the mode of payment.
Both Viu and the 10% cashback promo is offered for a limited time until 31st December 2020.
Starter pack costs RM10
A new Hotlink Prepaid Unlimited starter pack costs RM10 but you won’t get any unlimited perks out of the SIM. It has RM5 of credit that’s valid for 5 days and it comes with 500MB of free basic internet which is basically rubbish. Basic internet is essentially throttled internet with a speed cap of 64kbps. SMS costs 15 sen each and if you don’t activate any unlimited plan, calls will cost you 15 sen per 30 seconds.
