Despite the pandemic, Hollywood is slowly picking back up its pace by announcing new movie projects. Paramount has announced that they are moving forward with developing a sequel to the video-game adaptation of Sonic The Hedgehog.
Although the first movie’s initial design for Sega’s iconic blue hedgehog was visually traumatising and became an internet meme, their design rework pleased fans a lot more. Sonic the Hedgehog has earned USD306.7 million globally, and even went on to become the highest-grossing video game movie of all time in the U.S.
It’s unclear when the film might be released, which is completely understandable at this time. However, it is confirmed that director Jeff Fowler and screenwriters Pat Casey and Josh Miller are all returning for the sequel. Fowler confirmed the news with an excited Twitter post.
Sonic the Hedgehog stars Ben Schwartz as Sonic, James Marsden as a human cop and the hedgehog’s partner. Jim Carrey plays the iconic Dr. Robotnik, the villain of the Sonic franchise. In the movie, Sonic comes to Earth as an ‘alien’ to help save the planet from Dr. Robotnik’s schemes.
While there isn’t any other information about what the sequel would be about, I can only thank the super-fans and the internet for demanding the movie to redesign Sonic in the first one. I can’t bare to look at the first design for more than a couple minutes, from the long, hairy blue fingers to his human teeth.
