After recording a staggering 187 new cases yesterday, the number of new COVID-19 cases have dropped to 15 today. This is the lowest daily figure in Malaysia since the movement control order was imposed on 18th March 2020. The total number of confirmed cases in Malaysia is now 7,619.
Fortunately, there are no new deaths reported today and the death toll remains at 115 for 5 consecutive days. In addition, there are 42 new recoveries today and a total of 6,083 patients have recovered and discharged so far. The recovery rate currently stands at 79.84% while the mortality rate is 1.51%
At the moment, there are 1,421 active cases remaining. 8 are in ICU while 4 require respiratory support.
Out of the 15 cases today, 6 are imported cases and 9 are transmitted locally. Among the imported cases, 4 are returning from Egypt and there’s one each from the United Kingdom and Pakistan.
From the local cases, 5 are Malaysians, while the remaining 4 cases are non-Malaysians. The Ministry of Health has updated that a total of 4,752 individuals have been screened for COVID-19 at the three Immigration Detention depots. A total of 384 positive cases have been detected while 4,355 tests returned negative. There are 13 remaining tests that are pending results.
The Ministry of Health is also adding 5 new labs to increase the current COVID-19 screening capacity to more than 30,000 tests per day. At the moment, Malaysia has a maximum daily capacity of 27,667 tests per day through its 45 public and private testing labs located nationwide.
With the imported cases excluded, Malaysia has recorded less than 10 local COVID-19 cases today, which is a new breakthrough in containing the pandemic. The previous lowest daily figure was on the 12th of May with 16 cases. Out of the 16 cases, 3 were imported.
