COVID-19: 48 new cases today, 21 from Immigration Detention Depot at Semenyih

After recording 78 new cases yesterday, the number of new cases has dipped to 48 today. According to the Ministry of Health, there are now a total of 7,185 confirmed COVID-19 cases in Malaysia.

Fortunately, there are no new deaths recorded today and the death toll remains unchanged at 115. There are 53 new recoveries today and a total of 5,912 patients have already recovered and discharged so far. The recovery rate is 82.28% while the mortality rate is 1.60%.

At the moment, there are 1,158 remaining active cases. 9 are in ICU while 5 require respiratory support. Out of the 48 new cases recorded today, 4 are imported. The imported cases are 3 people returning from Saudi Arabia and one from Egypt.

From the 44 local transmitted cases, 25 are non-Malaysians which includes 21 from the Immigration Detention Depot at Semenyih which is a new cluster. Meanwhile, there’s one new case from the Pedas Cluster in Negeri Sembilan.

At the moment, the Ministry of Health has tested 500,469 individuals and the positive rate is 1.44%. Malaysia has conducted more than 23,000 COVID-19 tests daily in the past 10 days. On Thursday, they have conducted 30,020 tests which is a new record high, while yesterday, a total of 28,016 tests were conducted. At the moment, the 45 public and private test labs nationwide are capable of delivering a maximum capacity of 27,667 tests per day.
