The Ministry of Health has recorded 37 new cases today which brings the total number of COVID-19 infections in Malaysia to 6,978. Unfortunately, there’s one new death recorded and the death toll is currently at 114.
There are 31 new recoveries today and a total of 5,646 cases have recovered and discharged so far. Today marks the second day of fewer than 50 new recoveries. The recovery rate is currently at 80.91% while the mortality rate is 1.63%.
There are currently 1,218 active cases remaining which are still receiving treatment. 11 patients are in ICU while 6 are requiring respiratory support.
Out of the 37 cases reported today, 2 are imported from Singapore while 35 were infected locally. 22 cases are non-Malaysians. Kuala Lumpur has 22 cases, followed by 6 cases in both Selangor and Sabah, 2 in Pahang and 1 in Johor.
There are new cases recorded from the 3 active clusters. 7 cases are from the Pasar Chow Kit cluster, 6 from Pudu and 1 from the Cheras security guard cluster. Meanwhile, there are no new cases reported at the EMCO area of PJ Old Town market.
According to the Ministry, the current 45 COVID-19 testing labs have the capacity of conducting a maximum of 27,253 tests per day. Malaysia has been running over 20,000 tests for the past 6 days, while a total of 24,756 tests were conducted yesterday.
Although Malaysia has been recording new cases in double-digit figures for 16 days straight, the number of recoveries have declined since 16th May.
