COVID-19: New cases drop to 36 today (15 May), almost 80% of cases have recovered in Malaysia

Malaysia has recorded 36 new COVID-19 cases today which brings the total number of infections to 6,855. Fortunately, there are no new deaths and the death toll remains at 112.

There are also 88 new recoveries today and the total number of recovered cases now stand at 5,439. At the moment, the recovery rate is 79.34% while the mortality rate is 1.63%. With almost 80% of confirmed cases recovered, the Ministry of Health states that Malaysia has one of the highest recovery rates globally.

There are currently 1,304 active cases remaining that are still receiving treatment. 14 are in ICU while 5 require respiratory support. Out of the 36 cases, 28 are non-Malaysians.

Among the 5 active clusters, there are 10 new cases at Kg. Sungai Lui, 9 cases from the Cheras security guard cluster, 2 cases at Pudu, 1 new case each at Pedas and Benus. Meanwhile, Pusat Bandar Utara & surrounding areas of KL wholesale market have recorded 3 new cases while the PJ Old Town at Jalan Othman has one new case.

The ministry has shared that a total of 424,306 individuals have been tested as of 15th May with 6,855 found positive and 417,451 returned negative. The positive rate is currently at 1.62% and 13 out of 1,000 people have been tested in Malaysia. It also added that Malaysia has conducted the most COVID-19 tests among ASEAN countries. The tests are targetted at high-risk groups.

As of 12pm yesterday, there are still 8 red zones, 71 yellow zones and 122 green zones. Malaysia has been recording less than 100 cases daily for 12 days straight with the number of recoveries exceeding the number of new cases.
