U Mobile Giler BagiLebih: Free PA insurance for all eligible users, COVID-19 coverage for 30 days

U Mobile has just announced a new campaign, aptly named Giler BagiLebih, that aims to help Malaysians handle the “new normal” in light of recent affairs. As part of the campaign, the telco is offering Personal Accident (PA) insurance for free to all eligible customers who are Malaysians or Permanent Residents of Malaysia. This includes existing and new customers, along with postpaid and prepaid customers. According to U Mobile, this is particularly important now, with additional coverage for COVID-19-related ailments also provided.

GoInsure 3 is an insurance product that is underwritten by Chubb Insurance Malaysia Berhad, with benefits including Accidental Death Benefit, Accidental Disability Benefit, Accidental Medical Expenses Benefit, as well as additional Bereavement Expenses due to Accident. The policy will also cover deaths due to COVID-19, although this coverage is only for the first 30 days of the policy period.

After the 30-day free period, users will then have to pay a monthly RM3 fee for GoInsure 3, or they can choose to opt out of the coverage. The benefits are as follows:

According to U Mobile, this is the first time that such a bundled policy has been offered in the industry, with the Jasmine Lee, CMO of U Mobile explaining:

“U Mobile knows our customers are being affected by the pandemic in one way or the other, hence we are working hard to provide our customers with the relevant support. We are delighted to partner with Chubb Insurance Malaysia Berhad to provide GoInsure 3, making us the first telco in Malaysia to offer Personal Accident insurance that also includes additional coverage for COVID-19 to all eligible customers who are Malaysians and Permanent Residents.”

Discounts on monthly fees, free iPhone upgrades

Additionally, the Giler BagiLebih campaign also includes up to 20% in discounts on monthly access fees for its Giler Unlimited (GX) plans. Do note that this does not apply to the GX 30 plan. This means that customers signing up for the GX 50 postpaid plan will only need to pay a monthly fee of RM40 for 12 months, which comes up to monthly savings of RM10.

Additionally, the telco has announced that free upgrades will be given to customers who purchase the iPhone 11 64GB under the Unlimited Hero P139 or Unlimited Hero P99 plans. Instead, users will get the higher-tier iPhone 11 128GB version. According to U Mobile, customers will be able to save up to RM1,600 under the promotion, although that depends on the plan chosen by the customer.
