COVID-19: Malaysia records 68 new cases today, 53 from Negeri Sembilan

The number of new daily COVID-19 cases in Malaysia have increased slightly with 68 new cases recorded today, which brings the total number of cases to 6,535. Fortunately, there are no deaths recorded today, and the death toll remains at 107.

There are 88 new recoveries today, and a total of 4,864 patients have recovered and discharged. The current recovery rate is 74.43% while the mortality rate is 1.64%.

There are still 1,564 active cases remaining. 18 are currently in ICU while 7 require respiratory support. 64 cases are local while 4 are imported cases (3 from the UK and 1 from the US). From the total figure, 11 cases are Malaysians while the remaining 57 are foreigners.

53 new cases from Negeri Sembilan

Among the 64 local transmission cases, 53 cases are from Negeri Sembilan, followed by 5 cases in Selangor, 4 cases in Kuala Lumpur and one case each in Sarawak and Pahang.

Pedas factory cluster

According to the Ministry of Health, a cluster at a factory in Pedas, Negeri Sembilan has been identified. Out of the 786 tests conducted, 60 were tested positive for COVID-19 while 440 are still waiting for results.

Among the positive cases, 7 are Malaysians while 53 are foreigners. It was reported that the cluster was first identified after one worker become ill and showed symptoms such as fever, cough, cold and breathing difficulties since 5th April.

10 Red zones remain

As of 12pm on 7th May, there are 113 green zones and 78 yellow zones. There are still 10 red zones throughout the country located in Selangor, Kuala Lumpur, Johor and Sarawak. Meanwhile, the northern states such as Perak, Pulau Pinang, Perlis, Kedah and Kelantan remain fully green.
