The locally-assembled Proton X70 2020 which was launched three months ago is getting a new update. The carmaker has teased that the updated Proton SUV will be equipped with an N95 cabin filter that aims to improve cabin air quality.

According to Proton, the N95 cabin filter is designed to block harmful particles from the outside to deliver cleaner fresh air. It added that it also works with the climate control system on recirculation mode.

From the teaser on Facebook, the N95 filter is said to be effective in filtering smoke particulates, dust, bacteria and more. It claims to remove 95% of particles and contaminants larger than 0.3 microns and it removes 98% of PM2.5 dust particulates.

According to Proton, the full details will be unveiled on the 12th of May. So far it isn’t clear if there’s any price revision and whether Proton would offer the N95 cabin filter as an option for existing Proton X70 CBU and CKD owners.

Geely, which owns 49.9% of Proton has recently introduced its N95 certified intelligent air purification system (IAPS) on the Geely Icon. The system was developed in response to the COVID-19 outbreak and it works in tandem with the existing air conditioning system in the vehicle. According to Geely, it can eliminate harmful elements in the cabin air including bacteria and viruses.

At the moment, the X70 2020 is priced from RM94,800 for the standard 2WD model and it goes all the way up to RM122,800 for the Premium X 2WD model that comes with a sunroof. The CKD model is slightly more affordable and it boasts improved fuel economy and higher torque output thanks to the new 7-speed DCT gearbox. You can find out the key differences between the CBU and CKD models here.
