Proton to produce 60,000 face shields for the police and armed forces

Proton has announced that it has completed its production of 60,000 face shields ahead of schedule. Originally estimated to take 20 days, the car company will ship its final batch of face shields to medical frontliners today.

According to the national carmaker, the face shields were assembled by its volunteer staff. Pos Logistics Berhad and HICOM-Teck See Manufacturing have also contributed to the effort by providing transportation support and materials to produce the frame respectively. As of 28th April, the face shields have been delivered to 46 hospitals in Kelantan, Terengganu, Pahang, Selangor, Kuala Lumpur, Negeri Sembilan, Melaka and Johor.

The company has also announced that they will continue production of another 60,000 face shields starting 4th of May. This is a joint effort with parent company DRB-HICOM and the second batch will be distributed to other COVID-19 frontliners such as the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM), armed forces (ATM) and other service industries.

Deliveries will be prioritised to members of PDRM and ATM enforcing the movement control order (MCO). The new batch of 60,000 face shields is expected to be completed by 9th May.
