Malaysia has recorded slightly lower daily cases today at 57 and this brings the total number of COVID-19 cases to 6,002. Among the new cases, 25 are imported by returning Malaysians from overseas.
Unfortunately, there are 2 new deaths reported today and this brings the total death toll to 102 (1.70%). 84 cases have recovered today and there are now a total of 4,171 recoveries which is equivalent to 69.49%.
The number of active cases is decreasing steadily with 1,729 patients still receiving treatment. 36 are in ICU while 14 cases require respiratory support.
The Ministry of Health has also provided a breakdown of today’s imported cases. Out of the 25, 12 are Malaysians returning from the UAE, 6 from Egypt, 3 from Singapore, 2 from Norway and one each from Indonesia and the United Kingdom.
Since 3rd of April, all Malaysians from abroad have to undergo mandatory quarantine for 14-days at designated zones before they can go back to their respective homes. From 3rd to 30th of April, a total of 251 returning Malaysians were tested positive for COVID-19.
From the breakdown, as shown above, the highest cases are Malaysians returning from Indonesia with a total of 172 cases, followed by the UK with 23 cases, Singapore with 18 cases and UAE with 12 cases. Yesterday, the Ministry of Health reported a jump of 94 new cases with 72 being imported cases.
Looking at the trend, Malaysia has been recording less than 100 new daily cases for the past 2 weeks. As Malaysia is currently in its 4th phase of the MCO, some restrictions are being lifted gradually and interstate travel is currently permitted for returning students that are stuck at campuses.
The federal government has announced yesterday that up to two family members are allowed to travel together to buy essential items. However, Senior Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob has suggested that only one should go out to avoid long queues at markets and supermarkets. He gave an example whereby the husband can wait in the car while the wife shops for necessary items.
