Malaysia has recorded 11 straight days of less than 100 new daily COVID-19 cases. This is an encouraging sign that the current movement control order has helped to reduce the spread of the disease.
Today, there’s a slight increase with 40 new cases which brings the total of COVID-19 cases to 5,820. Unfortunately, there’s one death reported today which brings the current death toll to 99.
On the positive side of things, 95 patients have recovered and discharged today which brings the total number of recoveries to 3,957. The current recovery rate is 67.99% while the mortality rate is 1.70%.
In terms of remaining active cases, 1,764 are currently undergoing treatment. 37 cases are in ICU while 17 require respiratory support.
There’s still an increase of new cases at EMCO areas. 14 new cases were reported at Pusat Bandar Utara and surrounding areas of Kuala Lumpur Wholesale market in Selayang, and there is a new case each at Menara Plaza City One and Selangor Mansion.
Although Malaysia has been recording double-digit numbers since 17th of April, the Ministry of Health stressed that we are not out of the woods yet. Everyone is urged to comply with the MCO, practice social distancing, avoid gathering and to wash hands frequently.
