If you’re looking for a new gaming smartphone, it appears that the Black Shark 3 is coming to Malaysia very soon. The Xiaomi-backed gaming brand has just posted a teaser that the all-new Black Shark 3 will be revealed on the 30th April 2020.
Although the movement control order is tentatively expected to end on 28th April, we expect the device to be announced via a live stream event. So far it isn’t clear if both the Black Shark 3 and the Black Shark 3 Pro will be offered for our local market.
To recap, both the Black Shark 3 and 3 Pro are powered by a Snapdragon 865 processor and features an AMOLED display that pushes a 90Hz refresh rate. The Black Shark 3 Pro is a huge gaming beast with a 7.1″ screen that pushes a Quad HD+ resolution of 3120×1440 pixels. Meanwhile, the standard Black Shark 3 settles for a smaller 6.67″ display with a Full HD+ resolution of 2400×1080 pixels.
The devices are equipped with up to 12GB of LPDDR5 RAM and up to 512GB of UFS 3.0 storage. For the standard model, the lower-spec 8GB RAM version uses LPDDR4x RAM.
In the camera department, both Black Sharks get a triple-camera setup that consists of a 64MP main camera, 13MP ultra-wide-angle lens and a 5MP depth sensor. There’s also a 20MP front camera for selfies. Being a 2020 flagship, the devices support 5G in both SA and NSA networks as well as WiFi 6.
In terms of battery, the capacity is huge with a 5,000mAh unit on the Pro model that supports an insane 65W fast charging via USB-C. The standard model settles for a 4,720mAh battery that also supports 65W but the entry-level model is limited to just 30W. Instead of supporting wireless charging, the devices support 18 magnetic charging with a proprietary magnetic cable.
As expected for a gaming smartphone, both Black Shark 3 options come with stereo speakers. For the first time, Black Shark has finally included 3.5mm headphone jack for both models.
In China, the Black Shark 3 is priced from CNY 3,499 (about RM2,161) for the 8GB RAM + 128GB storage model, while the Black Shark 3 Pro starts from CNY 4,699 (about RM2,903) for the 8GB RAM + 256GB storage variant. We will find out more about the local pricing when the Black Shark 3 is officially revealed in Malaysia next Thursday.
