When it comes to smartwatches, it can be a little difficult to choose between the wide variety of options that are available today. There are smartwatches designed for everyday wear, while there are more sports-centric devices that are tailored for enthusiasts who need more advanced tech to track their sports activities.

The new Suunto 7, meanwhile, might just be a combination of both—the sports expertise of company and the functionality of Wear OS. If you’re in the market for a Wear OS smartwatch and you’re an “adventurer”, this might tick all the boxes for you.

Here’s what you need to know.

Specs

The Suunto 7 is powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon Wear 3100 chipset, while it runs on Wear OS; this means that you have access to all of Google’s smartwatch apps, as well as the Google Play Store. Suunto has included more than 70 sports modes for exercise tracking, with activities as varied as skiing and surfing complementing modes for running, cycling, and so on.

The smartwatch also features built-in outdoor maps that will work offline—Suunto says that Suunto Heatmaps will work even when the watch is in standalone mode, with no internet connectivity. And to equip the Suunto 7 for the adventurer, the watch is also “adventure-proof”, which translates to shock, dirt, and water resistance of up to 50m—you also get scratch-resistant Gorilla Glass for good measure. Additionally, there will also be a colour AMOLED touch display, with the 1.39″ display pushing a decent resolution of 454×454 pixels at a peak brightness of 1000 nits.

Overall, the Suunto 7 appears to have been designed to be durable, with a reinforced polyamide watch case, along with a stainless steel bezel. As for battery life, Suunto estimates that the smartwatch will have a battery life of up to 12 hours with continuous GPS tracking on, with a peak figure of 48 hours in daily use. There is support for GPS, along with GLONASS and Galileo systems for backup location tracking—features you usually see on premium sports smartwatches.

As with all Wear OS smartwatches, the Suunto 7 is compatible with both iOS and Android devices, with the Suunto App available on the Google Play Store and the Apple App store.
