Nikon, Leica and Olympus are offering virtual classes and talks, for free

Leica and Olympus have announced initiatives to offer free classes and talks for photographers. The initiatives are created for those in creative fields who are staying put at home to keep safe during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Olympus

Olympus has launched “Home With Olympus Sessions” to connect people with Olympus technical experts. Photographers can sign up for a group session, or a one-on-one session. You get to ask specific questions, get feedback, and learn more about their cameras.

The group sessions are capped at six people, and they offer sessions either based on the type of Olympus camera (E-M1X, E-M1 Mark III, etc) or based on the type of photography (macro, landscape, portrait, video, etc). You can even choose the session based on the Olympus session leader.

Leica

For Leica, they’re programming a series of complimentary online talks on their site. The conversations will be led by renowned photographers, musicians, actors, and other creatives. Instead of booking a session like Olympus, they have a themed scheduled program like Home Renewal—photography while on self-quarantine, or Still Life In The Secret Garden—where renowned photographer Maggie Steber reveals her process for Guggenheim-winning project ‘The Secret Garden of Lily LaPalma’. Their last talk is on 16th April.

They do also have online classes, but they aren’t free. An online bespoke class where you can specify what you want to learn like getting to know your Leica better, understanding exposure, as well as learning how to edit and process your images cost USD 150 (RM649) for a one hour session.

Nikon

Nikon is also offering free online photography classes until 30th April. All 10 classes available at the Nikon School and can be streamed for free, whereas normally, the classes are priced anywhere between USD 15 to USD 50 each.
