Bantuan Prihatin Nasional: Cash Aid to be disbursed earlier starting 6 April

Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin has announced that the Bantuan Prihatin Nasional (BPN) initiative will be fast-tracked and the cash aid will be disbursed starting this coming Monday, 6th April 2020. The one-off cash aid was announced last week as part of the RM250 billion stimulus package to help Malaysians cope financially during the COVID-19 outbreak.

According to the Prime Minister’s latest statement, the BPN cash aid was originally scheduled to be distributed in two phases – the end of April and the end of May. Now the first phase of payment amounting to a total of RM5.63 billion will be disbursed much earlier starting from Monday.

New schedule for 1st payment

Below is the disbursement schedule for eligible Malaysians:

As shown above, the B40 segment will receive their first portion of the cash aid between 6th to 12th April 2020. This includes households with a monthly income of RM4,000 and below, and single adults with a monthly income of RM2,000 and below.

For the M40 group, the first half of the cash aid will be disbursed between 13th to 15th April 2020. This includes households with a monthly income between RM4,001 to RM8,000, and single adults with a monthly income of RM2,001 to RM4,000.

The BPN cash aid will be credited directly to bank accounts as registered under the Bantuan Sara Hidup (BSH) and taxation information under the Inland Revenue Board (LHDNM).

Check for eligibility

Since 1st April, the Inland Revenue Board has sent out SMS or emails to notify Malaysians that are eligible to receive the cash aid. If you’re not notified, you can check your eligibility through the following portals:

https://bpn.hasil.gov.my/SemakanStatusBPN.aspx
https://bsh.hasil.gov.my/
https://www.treasury.gov.my/

On the BPN check page, all you’ll need is to enter your IC number and it will inform you of your eligibility along with the cash aid amount.

New application/appeal

For those who are eligible for Bantuan Prihatin Nasional but not registered under BSH or with the Inland Revenue Board (LHDNM), you may submit an application or file an appeal between 1st to 30th April 2020. Once approved, the cash aid disbursement will be made in May 2020.

For those without a bank account, the payment will be given by cash after the Movement Control Order is lifted.

For those residing in rural Sabah and Sarawak areas, they will receive the cash aid at the same time as Peninsular Malaysia provided that they have a bank account. For those without a bank account, the cash aid will be paid together with BSH 2020 Phase 3.
