To support the ongoing efforts to contain the COVID-19 outbreak in Malaysia, U Mobile has provided 100 new phones bundled with unlimited calls and data for our medical frontliners. The devices were handed over to the University Malaya Medical Centre and Hospital Sungai Buloh.
With the bundled U Mobile GX68 postpaid SIMs, the medical staff can use the unlimited data and calls to contact patients under investigations (PUI) and to conduct contract tracing. U Mobile CEO Wong Heang Tuck said “U Mobile is extremely grateful and appreciative of the courage and effort displayed by Malaysia’s medical practitioners who are risking it all to save the lives of COVID-19 patients. As such, we really want to do all we can to support the medical fraternity.”
He added, “To date, we have donated RM1 million to the Ministry of Health via the GLC Disaster Response Network and now with these 100 mobile phones and 100 postpaid SIMS with unlimited data and calls, we hope healthcare workers will be able to use them to stay connected, conduct vital contact tracing work and to reach out to PUIs. U Mobile will continue to monitor the situation and support wherever we can.”
To boost reception and coverage, U Mobile has also built a temporary network site close to Hospital Sungai Buloh. This was done in collaboration with ZTE and edotco.
During the Movement Control Order, U Mobile has also introduced several initiatives to help Malaysians work and learn at home. They have recently introduced its double hotspot quota offer and now users can also enjoy free 1GB of data daily between 8am to 6pm. The current Movement Control Order is now in phase 2 and it is currently scheduled to end on 14 April.
