Free Data: Here’s what all Malaysian telcos are offering during MCO

[ UPDATE 27/3/2020 16:30 ]: The Prime Minister has announced that Malaysians will get free 1GB data per day under the newly announced RM250 billion economic stimulus package. We’ve updated the telco offers below:

Everyone must stay at home during the Movement Control order to contain the spread of COVID-19. To help Malaysians cope with the disruption of their daily routine, our local telcos and service providers have taken the initiative to ensure that everyone stays connected. This includes free unlimited access to productivity tools, learning portals and some have offered free unlimited data quota during the MCO period. Here’s the full list of our telco offers:

Celcom

[ UPDATE 27/03/2020 23:50 ] Celcom offers free 1GB data daily for usage between 8am to 6pm from 1st April until the MCO is listed.

During the MCO period, Celcom is offering a number of initiatives which includes free access to selected apps.

Free unlimited access to WhatsApp
All Celcom Postpaid and Xpax customers can enjoy unlimited WhatsApp between 8am to 6pm daily. This covers chat, voice and video calls.

Free unlimited access to Microsoft Office 365
All Celcom Postpaid and Xpax customers are also given free unlimited access to Office 365 applications. Similar to WhatsApp, this is also applicable from 8am to 6pm daily.

Double Unlimited Internet Pass duration
For Xpax customers, you can get twice the duration when you purchase an unlimited Pass. Their 3-hour unlimited pass which is priced at RM2 will now come with 6-hours of unlimited usage.

Extended payment period
Celcom customers are given 7 days extended payment period to pay their bill. This is an extra week from your current due date.

Free Browsing to MOH sites

All Celcom customers can browse the Ministry of Health’s website for free without using your existing data. On top of that, they are also providing free calls to the Crisis Preparedness Response Centre & Movement Control Order Hotline.

Digi

[ UPDATE 1/4/2020 7:30 ] Digi is offering free 1GB data daily between 8am to 6pm for postpaid, prepaid, business and wireless broadband customers. You can redeem via the myDigi app. You will only need to redeem once and the data will be allocated to you daily.

Digi has introduced several free data initiatives for its postpaid, prepaid and wireless broadband subscribers. Below is a quick summary:

Digi Prepaid and Prepaid Broadband
Free extra data and voice call minutes for every reload of RM10 and above. Reload RM10 to RM29.99 to get 300MB of free data and 5 minutes of calls, which are valid for 3 days. For reload of RM30 and above, you’ll get 1GB of free data and 15 minutes of calls, which are valid for 7 days.

Digi Postpaid and Postpaid Broadband
Postpaid customers will receive free 1GB of data daily between 8am to 6pm. To enjoy this, you’ll have to redeem it from the MyDigi app. This is not applicable to Postpaid Infinite plan subscribers.

Digi Business
Digi Business customers will get 2GB of free data added to their existing quota. They will also get 600 minutes of calls which is now valid to twice the number of countries applicable.

Free access to learning and critical websites
All Digi customers can access JomStudi.my all day for free. Students can also enjoy 1-month free access to UPSR and SPM curriculums on Classruum for only RM1 via the MyDigi App.

In addition, Digi is also offering free website access and voice calls to vital services such as the Ministry of Health, DoctorOnCall and the MCO hotline.

It’s also worth mentioning that Digi is the first local telco to put a “Stay Home” message on their operator name. Both Yes and Unifi Mobile have also taken the same initiative.

Maxis

[ UPDATE 29/03/2020 12:30 ] Maxis is offering free 1GB data daily for usage between 8am to 6pm from 1st April until the MCO is listed. This is applicable for Maxis and Hotlink postpaid as well as Hotlink Prepaid. The free data must be redeemed daily via the self-care apps. We are also informed that the free data for Skype, Zoom and Microsoft Teams are no longer available.

Maxis is also offering free data for postpaid and prepaid customers, plus free access to productivity tools, news and learning portals.

Postpaid
Maxis offers Free 3GB Mobile Internet pass which can be redeemed starting from 27th March via the myMaxis, Hotlink Flex and MyMaxis Biz app. You can only redeem once and it is valid for 30 days.

Customers will also get free unlimited access to Skype, Zoom and Microsoft Teams with no data capping. This is also available only from 27th March onward.

Hotlink Prepaid
All hotlink customers can enjoy 20GB of free data with any purchase of HotlinkMU #StayHome internet pass. The validity will depend on the type of pass. The HotlinkMU pass can be purchased via the Hotlink RED app.

Hotlink is also offering 30% cashback for digital topups. In addition, you can also redeem free internet via the Hotlink rewards program in the RED app.

Maxis Business
Maxis Business customers can get free 6-months subscription for Managed Unified Communications via Microsoft Teams. This will be available on a first-come-first-served basis. Customers can also get a two-months free trial for fixed-mobile convergence via the Voice Connect app.

Free data for eKelas and News
To help kids to continue earning at home, Maxis offers free access to eKelas and selected news and health websites.

RedOne

MVNO RedOne is offering free 10GB of RedSocial which you can use for Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp and WeChat. This is offered for selected RedOne customers and eligible users will receive an SMS about the offer.

Tune Talk

[ UPDATE 1/4/2020 7:30 ] Tune Talk now offers Free 1GB per day between 8am to 6pm from 1st April until MCO is lifted. You can redeem by sending an SMS “STAYHOME” to 2222. A one-time redemption is needed and you’ll receive the free data daily.

Another MVNO, Tune Talk, is offering 20% extra credit when you reload via the app or their website. Do note that this offer is applicable for one-time only and the maximum free credit you can get is RM10.

U Mobile

[ UPDATE 27/03/2020 23:50 ] U Mobile offers free 1GB data daily for usage between 8am to 6pm from 1st April until the MCO is listed. To redeem, dial *118*6# (prepaid) or *118*7# (postpaid), and then select “Special Offer”.

U Mobile is offering double the quota for hotspot usage for selected postpaid and prepaid plans.

Prepaid
Subscribers under the Giler Unlimited Prepaid GX38 will get 6GB instead of 3GB for hotspot usage.

Postpaid
For those on Giler Unlimited Postpaid GX50 and GX68, you will be getting 10GB of hotspot data instead of just 5GB. Customers on the Unlimited Hero P99 will get 60GB of data, while P139 users will get a whopping 100GB of free data.

Unifi

TM’s Unifi is offering free data for both its #Bebas prepaid and higher-tier mobile postpaid plans. On top of that, they are opening up all of their Unifi TV channels for free.

#Bebas Prepaid
Unifi Bebas users can enjoy unlimited data on their LTE network with the free Bebas weekly pass. This can be activated via the mobile@unifi self-care app. Hotspot is also supported so you can share this with your household or other devices.

Unifi Mobile Postpaid
If you’re on Unifi Mobile 99, webe RM79, Unifi Mobile Pek Jasa/Senior Citizen plan, you’ll get 999GB of hotspot data for free. This is also applicable for Unifi Mobile Biz 99 and 79.

Unifi TV
All Unifi Home customers can enjoy all Unifi TV channels for free. This includes all premium channels and they are also offering 20% discount for all HyppFlicks and movies.

Yes

Yes is offering free SIM cards preloaded with 40GB of data to all children studying at public schools. Each eligible child can get a SIM and parents can register up to 5 SIM cards under their IC. Registration is done online and a WhatsApp video call verification is required. The SIM pack will be shipped to your doorstep for free and it’s valid for 2 months. They are also providing free access to the FrogAsia learning portal.

Yoodo

[ UPDATE 5/05/2020 10:30 ]: Yoodo no longer provides free 1GB data automatically during the MCO. You must redeem daily from the app. More details here.

[ UPDATE 27/03/2020 23:50 ] Yoodo is offering free 1GB data daily from 30th March until 14th April. The data can be accumulated according to your plan’s validity and you can use it at any time.

Yoodo is offering free 1GB of data every week until the 27th April 2020. If you’re an active user, you should have received your first GB on 20th March and they will continue to provide 1GB of data every Monday from 23rd March until 27th April.

Astro

Yes, Astro isn’t really a telco but this is still an offer worth mentioning. The pay-TV provider is offering free access to 22 Astro channels for free via the Astro Go app. This includes Astro AEC, Awani, Arena, Cartoon Network and Astro Tutor TV (UPSR, PT3 and SPM).

For existing customers, Astro is providing free access to all movie channels. If you’re an Astro Sports Pack user, you can watch ALL Astro channels (including non-sports) for free.
