YTL offers free Yes 4G SIM with 40GB data to help kids to study at home

With the ongoing Movement Control Order which has been extended until 14th April, YTL Group has announced that they are providing free data to enable school children from public schools to continue learning at home. Parents can order their free Yes 4G SIM and it will be delivered to their doorstep for free.

Each SIM will come with 40GB of data which is valid for 2 months. On top of that, you also get access to FrogAsia, a learning platform that’s managed by YTL. The offer is for children that are currently enrolled in primary or secondary government or government-aided schools in Malaysia.

To get the free Yes 4G SIM, parents will need to register online and provide documentation such as MyKad for both parents and child. A WhatsApp video call is also required for verification and this will be conducted within 24 hours of application. Once approved, the SIM will be delivered in the next business day or within 3 days for those outside the Klang Valley.

You can get a SIM for each eligible child and up to a maximum of 5 SIMs under a parent’s IC. That’s potentially a total of 200GB of free data if you have 5 children. We’ve reached out to Yes’ customer care and we are told that there’s no data restriction, and you can even use it for hotspot. The SIM cards must be activated before 31st May 2020.

According to YTL, they have run a survey and found that 95% of parents are concerned about their children’s education remains uninterrupted while they are at home. They added that those in the B40 group would need to purchase more data and this could be a huge burden especially when the current uncertainty.

YTL Group executive chairman Tan Sri Francis Yeoh said “At this time when the country is facing the unprecedented crisis of keeping our citizens safe from the Covid-19 pandemic, we want to make sure that children are able to continue their education at home. We are therefore giving free access to FrogAsia’s online learning resources and providing free data via the Yes 4G mobile network. Our hope is that all children in this country will stay safe and stay learning.”
