Even if the Olympic Games are postponed, this is the limited edition Galaxy S20+

Amidst reports that the International Olympic Committee is considering rescheduling the Tokyo Olympics that was due to begin in July 2020, Samsung has still gone ahead and announced a special edition of their Galaxy S20.

As part of a partnership with NTT Docomo (a Japanese provider), the Korean company has announced a unique, Olympic-themed Galaxy S20 to commemorate the upcoming Tokyo Olympic. According to Sammobile, the Galaxy S20 in question is the 5G variant of the Galaxy S20+—the mid-range entry in the S20 linup.

The Olympic Edition has a relatively minimalist design, with a matte gold finish and some white lettering etched into the back of the device. Interestingly, we can’t see “Samsung” anywhere on the device; instead, we’re seeing “Galaxy” emblazoned on the back of the device, above “Tokyo 2020”, the Olympic rings and the docomo logo.

Images of the Olympics-themed S20 were first seen via renders on the NTT Docomo site, and a “real-life” image has now surfaced on Chinese social media site Weibo.

Underneath the refreshed exterior, the Olympic Edition is basically still the same Galaxy S20+ 5G. That means the Exynos 990 powering the device, configurations of up to 512GB of UFS storage, and 12GB of RAM.

Fortunately, the Galaxy S20+ Olympic Edition won’t be exclusive to Olympians who compete in the games. The public will be able to order the limited run device for JPY 114,840 (about RM4,629)—in Malaysia, the Galaxy S20+ only retails for RM3,999, but in a single variant of 128GB. More importantly, only the Galaxy S20 Ultra has 5G support among the range in Malaysia.

In Japan, the Galaxy S20+ 5G Olympic Games Edition will be available for pre-order/registration from the 18th of March 2019 in Japan. Customers are expected to only receive units from June onwards. At the moment, we aren’t sure if the limited edition will be available in other regions.
