DxOMark: OnePlus 7T Pro camera is slightly better than last year’s Galaxy S10+

DxOMark has just published its camera review of the OnePlus 7T Pro and if you’re expecting a major improvement, you’ll be disappointed. The triple-camera device gets a score of 114 points which is on par with its predecessor, the OnePlus 7 Pro (Old protocol: 111). If you look at the score table, it is ranked outside the top 10 list but it is still a point more than the Samsung Galaxy S10+, Honor 20 Pro and two points more than the Pixel 4 and Huawei Mate 20 Pro.

In the photography department, it was given a score of 122 points while for video, it scored 96 points. While the 7T Pro photo score is the same as its predecessor, surprisingly, it scored two points less for video (OnePlus 7 Pro video: 98). According to DxOMark, the 7T Pro had scored lower in the Noise, Texture, Colour and Stabilisation categories for videos. The imaging benchmark site noticed “frameshifting” on the 7T Pro’s stabilisation algorithm which isn’t present on the previous model. However, the 7T Pro does offer better exposure, autofocus and artifacts scores than the 7 Pro.

DxoMark has also praised OnePlus for improving the 7T Pro’s handling of challenging scenes and it offers very good dynamic range under most tested situations. They found that the OnePlus 7T Pro does a better job in balancing dark and bright parts of the images and it is comparable to the Xiaomi CC9 Pro Premium Editon.

Overall, the folks at DxOMark found that the 7T Pro offers a very incremental upgrade which isn’t a surprise as it retains a similar setup. The OnePlus 7T Pro has a 48MP f/1.6 main camera, an 8MP f/2.4 telephoto unit with 3x optical zoom and a 16MP f/2.2 ultra-wide-angle camera.

The improvements come in the form of a tweaked algorithm which provides a more aggressive HDR, improved highlight retention and better-balanced output. They noted that its colours are leaning towards a warmer tone for both still and videos. Unfortunately, the OnePlus 7T Pro seems to lose out slightly for videos but it is still considered very good by DxOMark.
