COVID-19: WHO Director-General appreciates Malaysia’s commitment

The COVID-19 outbreak continues to affect multiple industries and regions, with 26 countries already impacted along with manufacturing and technology sectors. In Malaysia, we’ve had 22 confirmed cases, although there have been no deaths from the novel coronavirus as of the 19th of February.

Hysteria and paranoia are sentiments that have been commonly felt in recent times, but something that may offer you reassurance is the fact that the World Health Organisation (WHO) has now commended Malaysia’s readiness and ability to handle the COVID-19 outbreak—twice. Additionally, Malaysia has actually gone through—and survived multiple infectious outbreaks before. Have a look by clicking here.

Malaysia’s Health Minister Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad recently spoke to the Director-General of WHO, Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, with the minister later explaining that WHO holds Malaysia in “high regard” for public health, with their preparedness and readiness to handle outbreaks commended by the Director-General.

Dr Dzulkefly’s statement was also corroborated by the Director-General on his official Twitter account:

Meanwhile, it’s important to understand that those most at risk to COVID-19 are the elderly and those with compromised immune systems, and it is entirely possible to recover from these infections. The Ministry of Health earlier shared that a total of 15 patients have already recovered, out of the reported 22 confirmed cases—which means that around 68% of those infected have now recovered (in Malaysia). Meanwhile, the 7 remaining patients are still receiving treatment and are in stable condition.
