The Wuhan novel coronavirus outbreak has continued to spread, with the first confirmed case of a Malaysian being infected reported yesterday. Now, a four-year-old girl from China has fully recovered from the coronavirus in Langkawi, with Health Director-General Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah confirming that the patient will be allowed to leave quarantine and return home to China.

Two repeated clinical tests have confirmed that the girl is indeed infection-free, and the Health Director-General has also congratulated Hospital Sultanah Maliha Langkawi for the attentive work and treatment that has led to the recovery of the patient.

In his Facebook Post, Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah posted several images of the patient along with her family, stating that permission from the family had been granted for the images to be shared.

The Director-General also said in his post that this case is an example of how the Wuhan novel coronavirus is indeed treatable, as opposed to public perception:

“This case shows the 2019-nCoV is treatable and the patient can recover fully, as many other cases in China have been reported. The perception that this disease is fatal to those who contract it is inaccurate.”

This brings further clarity to the situation, for now. The prevalence of fake news on the Wuhan virus has brought up a variety of bogus and, frankly, outlandish claims on social media. Instead, the recovery of the first patient above offers a degree of comfort towards those who have loved ones who are infected with the coronavirus.
