This is the first Samsung Galaxy Z Flip hands-on video

The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip will be revealed next week and this is Samsung’s first flip-phone that uses a foldable display. Ahead of its official announcement, a hands-on video of the compact foldable phone has surfaced thanks to Ben Geskin and it gives us a clear look of the device as well as its folding mechanism.

As seen above, the exterior design looks very similar to the current Samsung Galaxy Fold but with half the size. When folded, the cover has a dual-camera bump on the bottom right corner while the bottom left gets a tiny secondary screen (1.06″) which is used to show the time and battery status.

Unlike the new Motorola Razr, the new Z Flip looks quite bulky and unfolding it with one hand appears to be cumbersome. Once unfolded, it reveals a tall display which is said to be a 6.7″ Full HD+ AMOLED display that has an aspect ratio of 22:9. For selfies, it comes with a centre-aligned punch-hole at the top, which is much better than the huge notch that you get on the current Galaxy Fold.

From the video, the Galaxy Z Flip can be closed almost completely flat, without leaving a huge thigh gap like the current Galaxy Fold. It has been speculated that Samsung is using a bendable ultra-thin glass material to protect its foldable display, which should be more durable than current foldable smartphones that use plastic.

As revealed by Roland Quandt, the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip runs on a Qualcomm Snapdragon 855+ processor with 8GB RAM and 256GB of storage. Powering the device is a modest 3,300mAh battery that supports 15W fast charging via USB-C. There’s no 3.5mm headphone jack and apparently, it can support wireless charging.
