If you’re looking for a gaming smartphone for less than RM2,000, the Black Shark 2 could be a device worth considering. The official Malaysian sets have gotten a huge price cut with up to RM1,200 off from the launch price.

According to retailer DirectD, the 8GB RAM + 128GB storage variant is now priced at RM1,599 (previously RM2,499) while the 12GB RAM + 256GB storage version is going for RM1,799 (previously RM2,999). These units run on official global ROM with Google Play Store and it is covered with a 1-year warranty from Black Shark’s authorised service centre.

To recap on the specs, the Black Shark 2 features a 6.39″ Full HD+ AMOLED display and it runs on a Snapdragon 855 processor. Although the screen settles for a normal 60Hz refresh rate, it does support a 3D Touch feature for gaming. The device comes with dual-front facing speakers but it lacks a 3.5mm headphone jack.

For taking pictures, the rear gets a 48MP wide + 12MP telephoto camera, while the front gets a 20MP selfie shooter. Keeping the lights on is a decent 4,000mAh battery and it supports 27W fast charging via USB-C.

If you prefer a gaming device with a Snapdragon 855+ processor and a 120Hz refresh rate, there’s the new Asus ROG Phone II Strix Edition that’s priced at RM2,499. The device comes with 8GB RAM and 128GB of storage, and it comes with more accessories than the Tencent edition.
