TM deploys 5G Smart City solutions with Langkawi Municipal Council

Telekom Malaysia (TM) has signed Memorandums of Collaboration (MoCs) with the Langkawi Municipal Council, the City of Tourism, and Langkawi Development Authority (LADA) to deploy 5G-enabled use cases as part of the 5G Demonstration Projects. With this collaboration, TM along with its enterprise and public sector business solutions arm – TM One, and its research and development arm – TM R&D, will deploy a total of five Smart City use cases with the municipal council. The 5G use cases aim to create a more convenient and safer environment for locals and tourists at the duty free island.

The use cases by TM ONE include Smart Traffic Light Solution, Smart Parking Solution, Smart Safety and Security Solution. Meanwhile, TM R&D will be setting up a 5G-enabled digital signage at Dataran Cenang that will stream 8K ultra high definition content from the cloud. On top of that, they will be implementing two use cases namely Smart Retail Analytics and Smart Vehicle Management System.

Apart from Langkawi Municipal Council, TM has also signed MoC with 6 other partners namely Haji Ismail Group (HiG), Nadias Hotel, Hotel Adya Chenang, The Loaf Asia Sdn Bhd, Artisans Pizza and Jabatan Laut Malaysia. These partners will use TM’s in-house developed use-cases which include the Smart Safety Helmet and its Smart Retail Analytics solution.

TM currently has the most number of use cases with a total of 11 out of 35 5G use cases on the island under the 5GDP. In terms of network, TM is currently utilising 7 out of 25 live 5G testing sites on the island and they are the first to trial 5G SA on both 700MHz and 3.5GHz spectrum bands.
