The Galaxy Fold is currently the Korean smartphone maker’s flagship foldable device that costs RM8,388. Previously, Samsung Electronic’s President had shared that a million Galaxy Folds were sold but it was shortly refuted by the company themselves. During CES 2020, Samsung’s President and CEO for IT and Mobile division, DJ Koh, has shared some actual numbers and also another hint for its upcoming foldable device.
He told reporters that Samsung had sold between 400,000 to 500,000 units of the Galaxy Fold. That’s at least RM3.2 billion worth of foldable phones since it was released commercially from September 2019. The figure is close to what analysts have earlier estimated for the full year.
The Galaxy Fold features a 7.3″ Infinity Flex Display that folds inwards and it gets a smaller 4.6″ HD+ screen on the cover. Available in both 4G and 5G variants, it runs on a Snapdragon 855 processor and it comes with 512GB of UFS 3.0 storage. In Malaysia, it was sold out within 24-hours during its first-day sale.
Interestingly, DJ also shared that he will introduce the new “clamshell” foldable smartphone during CES 2020. The actual launch is expected to take place on 11th February in San Francisco and we are guessing that this could be a teaser or preview for what lies ahead.
