This could be the world’s first 5G tablet

We’ve seen a number of 5G smartphones announced by key smartphone makers this year which are now trickling down to the mid-range segment. If you’re looking for a single productivity device with ultra-fast internet speeds, it seems that Samsung has beaten Huawei to the punch in releasing their first-ever 5G-connected tablet. The South Korean smartphone maker has listed the Samsung Galaxy Tab S6 5G on their Galaxy Academy promo page.

The specs and pricing are not revealed at the moment but it looks identical to the current non-5G version. For now, the Tab S6 is listed as coming soon and it isn’t on sale just yet.

The device which carries the model number T866N has been spotted a number of times during the certification process. If we look at a couple of 5G enabled Samsung models, there could be minor tweaks in camera setup and perhaps a larger battery capacity to support 5G usage.

At the moment, the Samsung Galaxy Tab S6 with 4G connectivity is currently priced at RM3,099 in the Malaysian market. It features a 10.5″ WQXGA Super AMOLED display and it runs on a Snapdragon 855 processor. The local device is configured with 6GB RAM and 128GB of storage which can be expanded via microSD up to 1TB.

The Galaxy Tab S6 is the first tablet to feature a dual-camera setup at the rear with a 13MP main camera and a 5MP ultra-wide-angle shooter. Meanwhile, the front gets an 8MP selfie shooter. Although it lacks a 3.5mm headphone jack, it has a quad-speaker setup tuned by AKG and it has Dolby Atmos enhancement. The tablet has a 7,040mAh battery which is rated to last up o 15 hours of video playback.

Also not forgetting Samsung DeX which can transform the tablet into a PC-like interface. Apart from the bundled S Pen, you can also get a BookCover Keyboard for a complete productivity setup while connecting another display via HDMI.

For now, this 5G tablet is expected to be released first in South Korea. Huawei also has plans to release a 5G tablet in Q1 2020 and we are guessing that this could be introduced in MWC 2020.
