Samsung now denies selling a million Galaxy Fold units

Turns out Samsung didn’t sell a million Galaxy Fold. Samsung Electronics’ President Sohn Young-kwon was reported to have shared its 1 million sales milestone during a conversation at TechCrunch Disrupt Berlin last week but unfortunately, Samsung has denied such claims.

According to a Samsung spokesperson that was contacted by Yonhap News Agency, Sohn may have confused the figure with the company’s initial sales target for the year. They have emphasised that sales of the Samsung Galaxy Fold have not reached 1 million units.

It was reported that Samsung was expected to sell 500,000 Galaxy Fold units globally in 2019, while industry analysts are expecting them to sell around 400,000 to 500,000 units this year. Samsung has not provided exact figures so we wouldn’t know for sure how many of their foldable smartphones have actually gotten to the hands of consumers.

In Malaysia, the Galaxy Fold is priced at RM8,388 and it was sold out within 24-hours during its first pre-order sale. It features a 4.6″ HD+ Super AMOLED display on the cover and a larger 7.3″ QXGA Infinity Flex display on the inside. Under the hood, it runs on a Snapdragon 855 processor with 12GB of RAM and 512GB of storage. For Malaysia, Samsung is selling the 4G version that is powered by a 4,380mAh battery.
