Honor’s first 5G flagship smartphone will be revealed on 26 November

The Honor V30 will be announced at the end of this month and this is their first smartphone with 5G support. It is expected to be powered by the latest Kirin 990 5G chipset which is currently found the Huawei Mate 30 5G version.

Honor President, George Zhao, has confirmed that the Honor V30 launch event will be taking place in Beijing on the 26th November 2019. From the teaser images, we can see a rather large screen display that’s flat without any fancy curved design. There’s also a wide punch-hole on the top left corner with two selfie cameras, which looks similar to the Galaxy S10+. Unlike the Mate 30 Pro, there’s still a traditional earpiece speaker at the top which we hope can support stereo audio playback.

On the right side, you can see a traditional volume rocker but the power button is missing. From the looks of it, Honor is carrying over its flush side-mounted fingerprint sensor that doubles up as a power button from the Honor 20 series.

We don’t have an official image of the back just yet but we reckon that it could come with a quad-camera setup. At the very least, we expect Honor to feature a 48MP main camera that’s currently used on the Honor 20 Pro.

The biggest question we have is whether the V30 will be released globally as the Honor View 30 with the same hardware. With the recent restrictions by the US government, Honor and Huawei are barred from introducing new smartphones with Google Mobile Services pre-installed. Like in the case of the Huawei Mate 30, the devices were sold globally with Huawei Mobile Services which doesn’t come with Google Play Store. You still can get your favourite Google apps on it but it will require a workaround which isn’t officially endorsed by Huawei.

But, recently, it appears that Honor is circumventing the ban by rehashing existing smartphones that were earlier certified by Google as new. The downside is that it will be running on older hardware and it will tough to sell these devices at flagship prices. We expect Honor to reveal more details of the V30 in the coming weeks.
