Former Maxis CFOs among possible candidates for Axiata Group CEO

According to a report by The Malaysian Reserve, Axiata Group Berhad may appoint a new Group CEO if it decides not to renew the contract of Tan Sri Jamaludin Ibrahim which will end in March 2020. Based on their sources, there are three possible candidates and two of them are former CFOs at Maxis.

Nasution Mohamed, who has served as Maxis CFO from 2015 to 2018 has been tipped to lead the company. Also being considered is Rossana Rashidi and she was a former Maxis CFO that served between 2004 to 2011 before she joined Time dotCom as the deputy-CEO.

The third possible candidate is said to be Tengku Datuk Seri Azmil Zahruddin Raja Abdul Aziz. He’s currently a board member and would be an ideal choice if the group decides to pick an internal candidate to take the helm of the top post.

The report also added that there’s also the possibility of Axiata Group extending Jamaludin’s contract. The source said that he might get an extension if all stakeholders are convinced he’s still the best person for the job taking his track record into consideration.

The telco veteran joined Axiata in 2008 after his retirement from Maxis and his contract was previously extended for another 3 years from March 2017. Axiata is a telecommunications group that manages several telcos in Asia which include Celcom in Malaysia, XL Axiata in Indonesia, Dialog in Sri Lanka, Robi in Bangladesh, Smart in Cambodia and NCell in Nepal. The group also runs digital businesses which include Boost eWallet, Ada and Apigate.
